I was riding home with my brother the other day when he popped in one of his most recently burned cd's. Of all the things I was forced to listen to those 10 agonizing minutes, it had to be the mind-numbing noise he refers to as rap.
I hate rap. Come to think of it, I hate it with a rather warm passion. Doing so much as saying 'rap' bothers me. The word itself is as stupid as the noise that correlates with its very existence.
I often mock my brother about his love of rap. He always gets pissed, then says something along the lines of 'it's my taste in music' or 'yeah, well, they're the ones making millions off of their music'. I don't say it so much to make some kind of point; I just like to hear his stupid statements.
In a politically correct world, it seems as though I'm forced to accept such bologna as real music. I simply beg to differ. I don't view it as music; I view it as horrible noise created for the degrading of human intelligence. There's no artistic value to it.
I see real music as that which takes real talent and real human input. The computer generated sounds used in rap don't count as human input, nor do the uneducated, illiterate, crime-glamorizing words I hear slurred along with the sounds count as lyrics.
Most all of the rap I've ever heard lacked melody and transition. All of it was the same thing; a steady 'beat' accompanying someone's story about growing up on the streets or being a player.(which I don't give a shit about, btw.) It bothers me that people make millions off of something so dumbfounding.
If I want real music, I'll listen to something that has some form of talented, artistic value. A real musician I can relate with; his words and music I can understand. I feel his emotion; it makes me happy, sad, or empathetic. It actually has a purpose.
